Kitchen Adventures with Jenny Schwartz || Week Four

"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food."-Hippocrates

Kitchen as a sacred space || When you get into a groove in the kitchen, time seems to fly. Put on music while you cook, make it fun, and enjoy yourself! This practice infuses your food with happy energy, one aspect of eating your food that makes it truly high vibes.

Embrace your senses || During mealtimes, eat sitting down in a quiet environment. Take your time to consume deliberately without rushing.  Eat without distractions by unplugging your gadgets and keeping your screens off.  Use your senses to enjoy the fruits of your labor and take the time to notice how the food affects your mind, body, and soul.

Below are general guidelines that I keep in mind when deciding what to buy and eat:

  • Buy whole, unprocessed foods. Avoid purchasing anything that comes in a plastic bag or a cardboard box. This is easiest if you stick to the perimeter of the grocery store where most of the fresh food is displayed.
  • Choose organic fair-trade, or local items as best as you can. This gives you the advantage of keeping in tune with the seasons and buying higher quality food.
  • Share your journey. Talk about it with the people around you. You never know what you’ll learn, and it’s great for building community.

With time your palate will evolve.  After only a few days of cutting out ingredients like dairy and sugar, I went through some unpleasant symptoms like: headaches, irritability, and even gastronomic upheaval, which can also accompany this process. Be patient and see the plan through.  You'll notice that your intolerance for former treats will increase and you will naturally cut them out.  Remember that your food will be nourishing.

Good luck and enjoy your high vibes eating adventure!
